A team of experts from the Met4Tech Circular Economy Centre, based at the Camborne School of Mines, created the exhibit to give the public a fascinating new insight into how metals crucial for everyday technologies can be extracted, used, and re-used to meet demand.

“‘The New Precious Metals’; Unearthing the Treasures in Our Everyday Tech” touring exhibit was launched in April 2024 at the Xplore! Science Museum in Wrexham, Wales https://met4tech.org/met4tech-launch-museum-exhibit-at-xplore-wrexham/  and is now installed at the Royal Cornwall Museum in Truro for the summer https://www.royalcornwallmuseum.org.uk/

This interactive exhibit invites visitors to try and solve the increasing demand for metal resources within a linear economy or increasing the circular economy by repairing, refurbishing, and recycling extracted critical metal products.

Participants will find out the scale of the demand for metals such as lithium, tin, and cobalt, as well as learning more about how technology metals make a big difference to everyday items such as phones and computers, as well as large-scale industry.

Please visit the UK Tech metals Observatory for further information about these precious metals (critical minerals) and their key applications https://techmetalsobservatory.org/.
