UK’s first Critical Minerals Intelligence Centre to help build a more resilient economy.

BGS News Pages: UK’s first Critical Minerals Intelligence Centre

The UK’s first-ever centre to collect and analyse information on the supply of critical minerals, which are vital to the UK’s economic success and national security, was officially launched on 4th July 2022.

With the production of some critical minerals expected to increase by nearly 500% by 2050, a resilient supply of critical minerals such as lithium, cobalt and graphite is essential to driving economic growth in the UK. These critical minerals are vital for manufacturing products that are required for green technologies, national security, and daily life e.g. electric vehicles, wind turbines, fighter jets, and mobile phones.

With unparalleled access to up-to-date data, the new CMIC will inform UK policy-makers and industry stakeholders with insights on the supply, demand and market dynamics of critical minerals.

“The Centre will help the Government and industry understand future UK critical minerals demand, and potential chain supply vulnerabilities”  Paul Lusty, UK Critical Minerals Intelligence Centre Director
